🛡⚔️🏰Around the year 1000, Konradiner Ehrenbert had a castle built on a rock up to 118 m high opposite the mouth of the Moselle, from whose name "Ehrenbertstein" "Ehrenbreitstein" eventually developed🛡. 🛡⚔️🏰In its current form, the fortress was rebuilt between 1817 and 1828 under the direction of the Prussian engineer officer Carl Schnitzler. Since 2002, the fortress has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage site "Upper Middle Rhine Valley", owned by the state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

The Ehrenbreitstein Fortress is a fortification that has existed since the 16th century, originally belonging to Trier, later Prussian, opposite the mouth of the Moselle in Koblenz. History of Ehrenbreitstein Fortress: 118 meters above the Rhine, the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress offers what is probably the most fantastic view of Koblenz and the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers. The Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, the second-largest preserved fortress complex in Europe, was built in its current form between 1817 and 1828. Its origins date back to the year 1000. Today, the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress is the only preserved Prussian fortress from the 19th century, the largest historical fortress complex in Europe after Gibraltar, and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley. Its location and facilities, the very good accessibility by cable car, as well as the spectacular view, which you can enjoy, for example, from the wooden viewing platform Rhein-Mosel-Blick, make the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress one of the most popular excursion destinations in Rhineland-Palatinate.
