A very beautiful trail, but be careful around the fourth, ninth, or tenth kilometer, as you might run into large Maremma sheepdogs, and the shepherd isn't friendly. If you decide to take this hike, I recommend bringing a weapon to protect yourself from the dogs.

White limestone rock accessible on foot and by mountain bike

From the limestone spur where the tower stands, it is possible to enjoy a view of the coast that extends between Capo Mannu and Capo Nieddu. The scenery is magnificent. The exact date of construction of the Pittinuri tower is unknown, but it is mentioned in the work of Don Michele de Moncada in 1578. Therefore, it represents one of the numerous fortified works erected during the Spanish domination along the coasts of the island.

The Cabu Nieddu tower was built as a response to the incursions of Barbary vessels on the Sardinian coasts, especially in the 15th and 16th centuries. Access to the ground was blocked, and could only be entered through an upper opening via a ladder which was retracted during attacks. It is currently in a state of abandonment. However, it is a great stopping point during the trek, especially because it offers a unique panorama. From here, you can admire Punta Foghe, also guarded by an ancient watchtower.

The water of the Salighes river gives life to the waterfall which falls directly into the sea, with a 40 meter drop from a basaltic rock amphitheater which frames the landscape. The waterfall has an abundant flow of water only following heavy rains, but it is still beautiful to take a walk along the cliff overlooking the sea.

The last part of the path is unfortunately very washed out but it's worth it!

Another marvel of the Sardinian coast

The waterfall is formed by the water of the Rio Salighes which flows directly into the sea with a jump of 40 meters from a basaltic rock amphitheater which frames the landscape. The waterfall has abundant water only after heavy rains, but the walk on the cliff overlooking the sea is still worthwhile.
