September 7, 2025, Bistro w Sienkiewiczówce

This place has been called "Bistro w Sienkiewiczówka" since its inception. You can buy a variety of drinks, soups, and simple main courses, usually cakes and sweets, ice cream, coffee, and tea, as well as several bottled beers. There are plenty of comfortable tables inside and out, a restroom, and it's tidy and welcoming. The owners are direct descendants of Henryk Sienkiewicz, whose historic residence is located right next door—a small palace with a museum you can visit. Next to the bistro, the owners also have a stud farm, which usually grazes in a visible paddock. This bistro hosts a variety of interesting guests; I once even witnessed guests arriving by helicopter. Seriously! :-) A nature trail begins next to the stud farm, leading through a beautiful and wild gorge to Mount Siniewska, from where you can descend 500 meters to a viewing platform with a sweeping view of the surrounding area. Barania Góra is at an altitude of 427m. It is the highest elevation of the Oblęgorskie Range. The mountain is generally covered with forest, so no views, although if you go down a bit to the east - a minute's walk, there is a gap between the trees. The beeches and firs here in the Barania Góra reserve are beautiful.

In 1900, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of his literary work, the Polish society organized a fundraiser for the future Nobel Prize winner and funded it in gratitude for his work. On this occasion, a civic committee was formed to prepare a program for the jubilee celebrations. The notarial deed was signed in Kielce on July 18, 1900 in the presence of counselor Tadeusz Kowalski and priest Zygmunt Chełmicki, who acted on behalf of the committee and the seller, notary Mieczysław Halik. The property was bought back for 51,249 rubles and 59 kopecks. The estate consisted of a total of 515 acres, including: 240 acres of forest, 160 acres of arable land, 90 acres of meadows, a park, an orchard, etc. With the funds left over from the collection, inventory was purchased for the writer (60 cattle, 6 horses, and agricultural machinery and tools). For this occasion, the sculptor Pius Weloński made a bust of the writer from white marble. The manor house designed by the Warsaw architect Hugo Kuder was built in 1895, the area around the palace, 49 hectares of land[3], was designed and arranged by the Warsaw gardener Franciszek Szanior. The road to the palace leads through the Red Gate and then through the linden alley.

It is worth going along the black trail to Barania Góra through this reserve. A beautiful forest, a ravine washed by the flowing water. Difficulty easy / medium.

In Oblęgorek is the estate of the Polish Nobel Prize winner Henryk Sienkiewicz, which the writer received as a gift from the society on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of his literary work. Since 1958, the palace has housed a museum dedicated to his life and work, which is a branch of the National Museum in Kielce. The palace itself is surrounded by a park designed by the famous Warsaw gardener, the creator of the Saxon Garden, Franciszek Szanior. Currently, inside the palace, the exhibition faithfully reflects the layout of the rooms and their furnishings from the time when the Sienkiewicz family lived in the palace. It consists of a study with a solid oak desk, a small gallery of family portraits, a collection of Middle Eastern and African weapons, part of the writer's library, books on historical subjects, translations of the writer's works into foreign languages often with dedications from the authors, works by his favorite writers - Dickens, Byron, France and ancient writers, anniversary gifts, memorabilia mainly related to Sienkiewicz's literary profession. Opening hours: April 1 - October 31 Monday: closed Tuesday - Sunday: 09:00-17:00* *Last admission at 16:00 November 1 - March 31 Monday: closed Tuesday: 08:00-16:00* *Last admission at 15:00
