Beautifully situated castle on a high Vistula escarpment. Next to it is a viewpoint.

The 18th-century manor house was the seat of the last heir of the Monia family. In the years 1978-1985, the manor house was moved to Janowiec, where it is now part of the open-air museum.

The castle was first mentioned in 1537. It was probably built by Mikołaj Firlej at the beginning of the sixteenth century and enlarged by his son Piotr (voivode of the Ruthenian Voivodeship) and grandson Andrzej. Under Andrzej, the important architect Santi Gucci built the complex from 1565-1585 in the Renaissance style. The castle was destroyed by the Swedes under King Charles X Gustav during the Swedish Deluge in 1655. All attempts to rebuild the extensive castle came to nothing. In 1928 the Warsaw archaeologist Leon Kozłowski bought the castle. His reconstruction plans were halted by World War II. Even in the socialist era, Kozłowski remained the owner because the state had no interest in the property. In 1975 the chateau was bought by the Muzeum Nadwiślańskie in Kazimierz Dolny. The building has been renovated since 1988. The concept is to leave a substantial part of the building in ruins, while the other part is to be meticulously restored (Wikipedia). The castle is open for tours and special events.
