This beautiful gravel path, known as the Tacot path, connects the Verdun Memorial to Vaux-devant-Damloup. It's the perfect track for picking up speed in a lovely natural setting steeped in history.

Very long front lines of trenches; today, the forest has grown back on the other side. During the war, not a single tree remained. It was very impressive how many kilometers of trenches there were in the forest, with shell holes every few meters.

The imposing bulwark on the Meuse River in Verdun is not only a memorial but also a representative example of contemporary history. Visit the underground citadel. You will be led into the vault and board a carriage. You will be equipped with headphones in your own language and 3D glasses. The story of three soldiers will be reenacted on September 13, 1916, on a rainy morning, returning from the Fleury front to Verdun. They were ordered to participate in the ceremony in the citadel. The "election of the unknown soldier" made this place a symbol of this terrible history. No photos are permitted during the tour. Opening hours vary depending on the season. Be sure to dress warmly, as it is always cold in the mountains (7 degrees Celsius).

Hello, thank you for your "like." It honors the memory of all those soldiers who remained in the field of honor. And as for hiking, you're right, there's plenty to do while remaining very careful; hell is raging out there. Best regards 💮.

Beautiful view over Verdun and the Meuse valley. On the nearby main road it is wonderful to drive downhill, but uphill is only recommended to a limited extent due to the busy traffic.
