A well-maintained bike path around the reservoir in Skierniewice. One lap is approximately 5.25 km. The flat route is very pleasant to cycle on. 😁

The Rawka River Nature Reserve, located in the Łódź province, covers 97 km of the naturally meandering Rawka River and adjacent areas with a total area of approximately 487 ha. It is one of the few reserves in Poland protecting the entire length of the river from its source to its mouth, along with the lower sections of tributaries and oxbow lakes. For road cyclists, the asphalt routes in the vicinity of Bolimów and Skierniewice are attractive, offering picturesque views of the river valley. It is worth remembering, however, that some sections may lead through roads with a poorer surface, so it is recommended to plan the route in advance. The reserve also offers the opportunity to observe a variety of fauna and flora, which makes it an interesting place for cycling trips combined with admiring nature.

The reservoir on the Skierniewka (Łupia) River is already visible on maps of Skierniewice from the 15th century. Initially, the reservoir was located near the village of Dęba, which was later incorporated into the city of Skierniewice. It was practically untouched by humans until the second half of the 20th century. It was not until the 1970s that its lower section was excavated near Zadębie Street and the Zadębie district. As part of the reservoir's renovation carried out in the years 1996-1999, the current reservoir bowl was shaped.

January 17, 1945, early morning. Tanks from the 220th rapid reaction group, commanded by Colonel Pashkov, break into Skierniewice occupied by the Germans. The occupiers are surprised and surrender the city almost without a fight. The only loss is a Soviet T-34 tank, in which its entire crew was killed. Today, these events are commemorated by a monument - a T-34 tank, located on Sienkiewicza Street (near Dworcowa Street). It was probably hit in this place by a German Panzerfaust. There is a plaque on the monument to the fallen tank crew.

The water mill is located on the Rawka River in the village of Suliszew. It was built at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. It was a brick and wooden building, where the lower storey was brick and the other two were wooden. It was covered with a sharp gable roof. A four-storey brick building with basements was added to the mill. Before the war, the mill belonged to the Lipiński family, after the war it was taken over by the municipal cooperative in Kamion, and then by the cooperative in Puszcza Mariańska. Currently, the mill is in private hands.

The reserve covers the Rawka riverbed from its sources to its mouth on the Bzura (approx. 97 km), as well as the lower sections of the right-bank tributaries (Krzemionka, Korabiewka, Rokita and Grabianka), oxbow lakes and strips of land adjacent to the banks with a width of 10 m. The Rawka is a river with clean water and a fast current, strongly meandering. The aim of the reserve protection is to preserve a typical medium-sized lowland river in its natural state, together with the landscape of its valley and the habitat of many rare and protected plants and animals.
