In the bay of St. Marek, above the only sandy beach on the island of Krk, on a peninsula, stands the Church of St. Mark. The church was mentioned in the Episcopal Visitation of 1565. Its architectural style suggests that it is probably older, dating from the transition from the 12th to the 13th century. It was abandoned in 1790. Archaeologists have found numerous traces from antiquity: Roman graves with jewelry, iron weapons, and baked ceramics. The remains of a villa rustica were discovered in the sea, indicating that life was already present here in Roman times, and the settlement with a small harbor continued even after the arrival of the Croats.

Krk's city walls date back to the 1st century BC, and their remains can still be seen today in the grounds of Cafe Volsonis. Over the centuries, the city walls and towers were built, with the last expansion taking place in the 15th century, and they are still well preserved today.
