If you've ever tried planning hiking in Voyageurs National Park, you know how quickly the options can feel overwhelming. With so many trails and unique access points, it's tough to tell which routes are genuinely worth your time and effort, and which are just filler. That's where we come in. Our komoot community has explored, mapped, and reviewed these trails, so we've done the legwork to bring you a curated shortlist of the very best. We're here to save you the guesswork and point you straight to the routes that deliver.

Voyageurs National Park is unlike any other, a true water-dominated landscape where land and lake intertwine. Expect thick boreal forests, ancient glacially carved rock ridges, and a unique blend of islands and interconnected waterways. Many trails here are only accessible by boat, adding an adventurous layer to your hike. While the park offers year-round activities, the best hiking season is when the lakes are open, allowing full access to its diverse terrain, from easy strolls to more challenging backcountry routes.

If you only do one hike, we'd start with the Oberholtzer Hiking Trail, an easy 2.1 miles (3.3 km) loop that offers fantastic views of diverse forest and wetlands, with a section that's even wheelchair-accessible. For a quiet alternative with a unique payoff, the Sullivan Bay and Beaver Pond Overlook Trails, at 2.0 miles (3.2 km), combine a gentle forest road walk with a short climb to an active beaver pond.
