The Historic Truman Courthouse – also known as the Jackson County Courthouse – in Independence is said to be the official starting point of the historic Oregon Trail. Through much of the emigration era, the settlers wagons were outfitted right here. You can find a monument marking the beginning of the Oregon Trail next to the building.
