Vaux was given to the Abbey of St-Julien d’Auxerre from its foundation in the 7th century. From the bridge you have a beautiful view of the village.

The entire village of St Sauveur en Puisaye seems to vibrate in the name of Colette, the local child, author of “Blé en herbe” and the “Claudine” series. His name and his memory are disseminated throughout the village through the Colette house (his birthplace) located on rue Colette, the Colette Museum installed in the castle, as well as the murals which adorn the streets. But it is also a charming village and the surrounding countryside offers many small country roads. “And if you passed between the mown meadows, at the time when the sun streams on the round stacks which are the dunes of my country, you would feel your heart open to their perfume.” Colette..., "The tendrils of the vine". Driving around the area can also provide an opportunity to experience this.

The cathedral is open for tours during the day and this is not to be missed! It is a major work of French Gothic architecture and impresses with its high, light-flooded vaults and colorful windows. "The cathedral is located in the center of the old town on a hill above the Yonne. Saint-Étienne was begun in 1215. Today's Gothic cathedral is the fifth building on this site. In 1567 the Huguenots sacked the city and the cathedral, which necessitated repairs, particularly to the choir glazing. The French Revolution caused countless damage to the building and its furnishings. The goldsmith's work was melted down, the church was transformed into a temple of reason, and the important statue of the suffering Stephen on the high altar only escaped destruction because it was turned into a suffering Marat in the bath. In 1840 Prosper Mérimée placed the cathedral under monument protection. Extensive restoration work took place throughout the 19th century." Behind the road is the large Camping Municipal. There is a hotel with a bistro on the beach in front of the street. The other stands for crepes, fries, etc. were still closed in June. Even further west is a large picnic area in the forest. The beach is also monitored during the summer holiday season. You can rent treet boats. The water is not too cold. A beautiful, quiet, large lake for swimming.

The original tower, also called Tour Gaillarde, was part of a Gallo-Roman fortification and was often restored, expanded and elevated over the centuries. A city gate was built based on this tower in 1483, which also housed a prison. There is a small market on the square in front of the tower, at least on Saturdays, where you can buy regional food. A sight that stands out from the many buildings in the city that are worth seeing.
