The site of Oiselay-et-Grachaux, the "bird hill", has been inhabited since prehistoric times, as evidenced by the discovery of a Neolithic station. In ancient times, Oiselay was located on the Roman road linking Besançon to Langres. Until the eighteenth century, the Lord of Oiselay ruled the area.
