The Via Ardeche railway cycle path is a nice idea in itself, but unfortunately, the perfect surface (asphalt) is only present in the tunnel sections. The rest is rough concrete, gravel, and even worse.

In the tunnel it is best to drive on the asphalt, after that there is too much grit on the asphalt or concrete

Magnificent road winding through the Païolive woods, you can find pretty rocks there, notably those of the bear and the lion... several parking lots on the road allowing you to park and join the marked hikes!

During winter months, snow can cover the area, making some trails inaccessible or more challenging. Spring and autumn offer pleasant temperatures and beautiful scenery, while summer provides longer daylight hours, though it can be warmer.

You can also find viewpoints like Col de Meyrand Viewpoint offering panoramic vistas.
While specific parking details for each starting point are best checked on the individual route pages, Montselgues and surrounding villages typically offer public parking facilities. Given the remote nature of many of these trails, parking is generally available near trailheads or in the villages where routes often begin or pass through.
The no-traffic gravel bike routes in this guide vary in length and elevation. The trails often pass through or near small villages where you might find local cafes, bakeries, or small shops. The Montselgues area is highly rated by the komoot community, with an average score of 5.0 stars. While Montselgues is a somewhat remote area, some larger villages nearby, such as Villefort or La Bastide - Saint-Laurent-les-Bains, may have limited public transport connections (e.g., regional buses or train stations). It's recommended to check local transport schedules in advance, as services can be infrequent, especially in mountainous regions. Accessing trailheads often requires a car.
