On the opposite bank from the spillway building is a dry dock for boat repair and maintenance. How does it work? By operating a gate located at the downstream corner of the spillway building, the space between the lock and this gate is transformed into a basin that is filled with water from the Junction Canal. At its highest level, the maintenance platform is submerged, allowing boats to position themselves above it. The downstream gate's sluice gates are then opened to drain the basin. The boat then gently lowers onto the supports provided for this purpose. In a few dozen minutes, the boat is out of the water. The repair work can then begin. The section posted for this Highlight is in the town of Sallèles-d'Aude so you have a lot of people walking in this section. Dog walkers with dogs not on leads, families taking the whole path etc., so whilst it is pretty in can be annoying when biking, This was in the last days of Oct. '25 so I think in summer it would be almost impassable at times. The other way towards the Gailhousty Lock and eventually Narbonne is much quieter if you want to ride unhindered by walkers & dogs, especially if you take the wide gravel track on the other side of the canal from the Vioe Verte.

This small chapel is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, who in France is almost always venerated under the title "Notre-Damé" (which corresponds to "Our Dear Lady" in German). Dedicated to all those lost at sea, the small Marian shrine was built at a marine cemetery. Numerous votive tablets and ship models displayed here bear witness to the gratitude for those rescued.

Excellent guest house which offers dinner (vegetarian!). Very friendly hosts and spacious rooms with (in our case) an amazing bathtub, which was perfect after a rainy bike ride. Also, they have locked, covered garage to secure bikes. just off the Canal in Capestang and near main plaza and Church.
