The Local History Museum in the former old school building is located in the middle of the historic town center of Münchingen, between the town hall and the late medieval St. John's Church. The present-day Local History Museum was founded in 1986 by the town of Korntal-Münchingen in close cooperation with the Münchingen Local History Association e.V. Rooms furnished with great attention to detail transport the visitor to familiar environments of past times, such as the classroom with its wooden benches and slate writing boards, the grandparents' bedroom with the angel picture above the bed, or the workshops of typical village craftsmen such as the blacksmith and the wainwright. An exhibition room is dedicated to the life and work of the well-known Münchingen pastor and educator Johann Friedrich Flattich (1713-1797). The stately former school building, which once shaped the streetscape, is located in a typical position near the church and vividly shows the character of a village schoolhouse from the mid-18th century. Its size also demonstrated the economic strength of the prosperous farming village. The first building, from the early 17th century, burned down during the Thirty Years' War (1643) but was rebuilt from 1645 to 1650. After a renovation in 1743/44, it was used as a schoolhouse until 1964. Today, interesting exhibitions and events are regularly held. They make the museum a place where local history can be experienced in the past and present. https://www.korntal-muenchingen.de/heimatmuseum Further information can be found in the flyer Opening hours: Tuesday 3 PM - 6 PM | Sunday 11 AM - 12 PM and 2 PM - 5 PM | Admission is free!
