Geographic marker on the road to the Sant Marc hermitage

It was the church of the old municipality of La Barcella and is located about 5 km north of Xert. What remains today of the hermitage of San Pedro and San Marcos de la Barcella is a complex formed by the church, the hermit's house, the porch that formed part of the hostel and the watchtower. The exterior appearance of the hermitage is as sober and rustic as it is beautiful: a simple rectangular building of rough masonry facing northwest, with ashlar reinforcements at the corners and a double-pitched roof. The smooth façade has a semicircular arched entrance door and a rectangular window in the pediment, which ends in a curved cornice topped by a small wrought iron cross.

Located on a hill overlooking the town of San Mateo, we have the hermitage that also has a restaurant. At the top of the square, there is a fountain where you can refill your bottles.

Hermitage of Santa Barbara. Salzadella Its construction dates from the end of the 17th century, although it was almost certainly built on top of another, older temple. In agricultural lands there are numerous hermitages dedicated to Santa Bárbara, since she is venerated to be free from the lightning of storms. Hence, the popular tradition still preserves the saying: "Blessed Santa Bárbara, that we keep from the collita". Formerly the residents of Tírig made pilgrimages to this place, until in 1603 they built their own hermitage to the saint. La Salzadella (Baix Maestrat/ Castelló/ Spain)

This Hermitage dates back to the 17th century and has a very peculiar history attributed to storms and lightning strikes. It is very close to the town of Salzadella and deserves a visit.
