While several of its elements date back to the 14th century, such as the nave, the tower, or the north chapel, this church was rebuilt in the mid-17th century, with some additional elements added later, such as the south aisle.

On one side of the road, at Bullfinches Farm, you can observe their oast house, which is a Grade II listed building. These types of structures were used for drying fresh hops before sending them to brewers.

The nave, chancel, tower, north chapel and aisle look C14 in origin, but most was rebuilt in 1663, with a large chapel with C17 and C19 monuments. A south aisle was added in 1844.

Beautiful views. Always worth the climb. Lovely place to stop for a snack, though can get breezy so need to shelter behind the gorse.

The charming village of Withyham is nestled in the Medway Valley close to Ashdown Forest, the highest region of the High Weald AONB. The sandstone outcrops at Penn's Rocks SSSI are worth exploring, whilst nearby Five Hundred Acre Wood was the inspiration behind the Winnie the Pooh stories. The farmhouse-turned-hostelry of the Dorset Arms serves excellent food. Meanwhile accommodation can be sought in neighbouring Hartfield at the Anchor Inn.
