Coronation Park is one of the major areas of open space in the north of the Borough. It is situated within the centre of a large residential area and is a very popular local amenity. It has seen a number of improvements in recent years. The childrenโs play area has undergone a major redevelopment with separate areas for younger children and teenagers created. A new multi-use games area has also been introduced adjacent to the skate park. The park also has a popular bowling green and traditional park pavilion together with a network of footpaths. There are large copses of tree planting interspersed with bulbs and wild flowers. The park is the venue for a number of large scale community events in the summer months and is used regularly by youth groups and schools for various activities. There are proposals to upgrade the sports pavilion in 2011 together with the introduction of new lighting and the resurfacing of some of the paths.

Alternative parking can be found here, either in the small car park or on the roadside if ther is no room at the start point. Colliers Wood is on the site of the old Moorgreen Colliery and has been turned into a small Country Park. It has a open air theatre, Wood carvings, a small pond that has quite a few Swans and Waterfowl on it and numerous gravel paths to walk on.

Nice cafe in an unexpected place. Very close to the Erewash Valley Trail so suitable for a lunch stop. Great selection of sandwiches, salads, etc. and the shop also has a deli and cake selection (eat in or take away). Very friendly. Nice small garden for the right weather. Bike parking in the garden - a couple of places are reserved for Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish.
