Like all ancient manor houses, the Castello di Spessa – in the heart of the Gorizia Collio – exerts a subtle charm even on the most distracted visitor. And not only for the refined elegance of the buildings and its millennial history, but also for the beauty of its centuries-old park. Although there is evidence of its origins as far back as Roman times, the actual manor dates back to the 12th century. In 1987, the manor and the surrounding vineyards were purchased by the Friulian entrepreneur Loretto Pali, who brought them back to life, making them the heart of a refined resort nestled among the hills. Today, the Castello di Spessa Golf & Wine Resort hotel complex includes an 18-hole golf course and its clubhouse, the winery with a wine shop and medieval cellar, three restaurants: Hosteria del Castello, the gourmet restaurant La Tavernetta al Castello, and the Bistrot Il Gusto di Casanova. In addition to the historic residence with 15 rooms furnished in 19th-century style, the resort also includes the Appartamenti nelle Vigne, the Hunting Lodge, the Casale in Collina, and the 2000 sqm Vinum Spa. www.castellodispessa.it/

A beautiful cycle path leads to this cycle and pedestrian bridge over the Isonzo river, or as they call it in Slovenia, the Soča river.

Beautiful dirt section always in excellent condition that follows the Judrio river, which here marks the border between Italy and Slovenia. Be aware that in Slovenia, on dirt roads, if not expressly forbidden, car and motorcycle traffic is absolutely permitted.

beautiful dirt section that runs along the course of the Judrio river. The road is always in excellent condition, the crossings on the bridges are paved. The Judrio, which runs under and alongside the road, seems docile but beware that on days of heavy rain it becomes fierce and dangerous like few others. Be aware that the road (as often in Slovenia) although unpaved is open to all motorized traffic.
