Because the weather is always great year-round, this is my 14th trip and I love it, and Playa de las Conchas on La Graciosa is the most beautiful and popular beach in the Canary Islands. That's true, but the walk there from the port is quite strenuous. However, once you know what awaits you, it's all forgotten. My tip if you want to try it: take the first ferry from Orzola (Lanzarote) to La Graciosa at 8:00 AM. You'll arrive there at 8:30 AM. Then go to one of the small supermarkets and get drinks, filled baguettes, etc., put them in your backpack, and off you go, always along the coast. You'll be surprised how peaceful the world can be because, apart from the waves and the wind, you hear nothing else. If that isn't relaxation, I don't know what is. If you also take a towel, you can lie down in one of the numerous bays on the way to Playa de las Conchas and linger for a while, enjoying the scenery, and then continue your walk. You won't be disappointed.

Are there any easy, short walks suitable for families with young children or toddlers?

Yes, there are several easy options perfect for families with young children. While specific pram-friendly routes might be limited due to the natural terrain, many shorter, flatter sections on La Graciosa are ideal for little legs. Consider exploring the areas around Caleta de Sebo for gentle strolls.

What is the best time of year for family hiking in Archipiélago De Chinijo?

The Archipiélago De Chinijo enjoys a mild climate year-round, making it suitable for hiking in most seasons. However, for families, the cooler months from autumn to spring (October to May) are generally more comfortable, avoiding the peak summer heat. Always check the local weather forecast before heading out.

What natural features or landmarks can we see on family-friendly hikes?

The archipelago is rich in natural beauty. On your hikes, you might encounter dramatic volcanic cones and craters, such as the impressive Montaña Amarilla, which is a highlight on the La Graciosa – south coast to Montaña Amarilla route. You can also enjoy breathtaking panoramic views from the Risco de Famara on Lanzarote, overlooking the entire archipelago. Other notable sights include Montaña Bermeja.

Are there any beautiful beaches accessible during family hikes?

Absolutely! La Graciosa is renowned for its stunning beaches. Many hiking routes will lead you to or near picturesque spots like Playa de las Conchas, Playa de La Francesa, and Playa de La Cocina. On Lanzarote, the expansive Famara Cove Beach is also a popular destination.

Is public transport available to reach the trailheads in Archipiélago De Chinijo?

Access to Archipiélago De Chinijo, particularly La Graciosa, is primarily by ferry from Órzola on Lanzarote. Once on La Graciosa, the main village of Caleta del Sebo is the starting point for most trails. The island is small enough to explore on foot or by bicycle, and there are limited taxi services available for longer distances.

Where can we find parking for family hikes, especially on La Graciosa?

If you are traveling to La Graciosa, you will need to leave your car in Órzola, Lanzarote, as private vehicles are not permitted on La Graciosa. Always check local signage or official park guidelines for specific restrictions before bringing your pet.

What should we wear or bring for a family hike in Archipiélago De Chinijo?

For comfortable family hiking, we recommend light, breathable clothing, sturdy closed-toe shoes, and sun protection (hat, sunglasses, high-SPF sunscreen) due to the strong Canarian sun. Always carry plenty of water, especially as many trails are exposed. Snacks, a first-aid kit, and a camera to capture the stunning scenery are also good ideas.

Are there any circular family walks in the area?

Yes, circular routes offer a great way to explore without retracing your steps. While some longer routes like La Graciosa – circular by the north of the island are more challenging, you can often adapt sections of trails around Caleta del Sebo or along the coast for shorter, family-friendly loops.
