Wonderful tourist destination. One of the most beautiful and renowned bays in Italy. In Vignanotica there is a campsite (camping vignanotica) and a residence (vignanotica beach apartment) www.vignanotica.it In the immediate vicinity there is the 3 km nature trail "sentiero dell'amore" (path of love) which is beautiful to do both on foot and by bike. It is possible to stay in both the campsite and apartments. In the immediate vicinity there are markets, small restaurants and equipped beach clubs. There is also the possibility to rent canoes to see the most beautiful caves of the Gargano!

In 2011, the pilgrimage site of Monte Sant'Angelo was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List as one of the seven components of the Lombard site in Italy, Places of Power (568 to 774 AD). The historic site and its surroundings are also protected by the Gargano National Park. The sights are well described in the following link: https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monte_Sant%E2%80%99Angelo

San Michele – the main church of Monte Sant'Angelo – is a grotto church, a church type particularly favored by the Normans in their newly conquered territories. All that can be seen at the top of the mountain is the church's octagonal bell tower (1273/74) and the two-part entrance hall (1395). The church itself is located inside the mountain. San Michele is a pilgrimage church dedicated to the Archangel Michael. Source: https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monte_Sant%E2%80%99Angelo

The Laghetto d'Umbra is a rainwater-fed lake. The turtles living here were released, but they seem to thrive here.

On the way to the resort, you'll actually only encounter fences (in winter) or, during the season, you'll probably have to pay an entrance fee. The other path, further east from the SP53 road to the bay, is closed at the road level. There are rather arduous ways to reach the bay (path to the resort, always following the fences back in a curve to the northwest, then descending to the closed path to the bay in the opposite direction to the southeast). It can be quite annoying, though!

The Parco Nazionale del Gargano offers a wide variety of hiking opportunities, with over 200 routes available. Among these, you'll find around 90 trails specifically rated as easy, making them ideal for families with children.
The most pleasant seasons for family hiking are spring (April to June) and autumn (September to early November). During these times, the weather is mild, and the landscapes are either vibrant with blooms or rich with autumnal colors, providing a comfortable and scenic experience. Summer can be hot, so early mornings or late afternoons are best if visiting then.
Yes, there are several easy loop trails perfect for families. A great option is the Lago d'Umbra - Falascone Loop, which takes you through the ancient, shaded beech forests of Foresta Umbra. Another circular route, though slightly longer, is the Sfinalicchio, the Bay and the tower of Sfinale – ring tour, offering coastal views.
The Parco Nazionale del Gargano is rich in natural beauty. You can explore the ancient Umbra Pond within the Foresta Umbra, discover dramatic coastal formations like Pizzomunno Rock near Vieste, or enjoy the stunning white cliffs and clear waters of Vignanotica Beach and Zagare Bay. Many trails offer panoramic views of these diverse landscapes.
Absolutely! The region blends natural beauty with rich history. You can visit the historic Monte Sant'Angelo Castle, explore the charming Vieste Historic Center, or discover the ruins of Castel Pagano. Some trails, like the Monte Saraceno Archaeological Nature Trail, specifically combine natural beauty with archaeological interest.
Many trails within Parco Nazionale del Gargano are dog-friendly, especially those in the Foresta Umbra. However, it's always best to check specific trail regulations or local signage, as some protected areas or beaches might have restrictions. Always keep your dog on a leash and clean up after them.
When hiking with children, it's essential to pack plenty of water, snacks, sun protection (hats, sunscreen), and comfortable walking shoes. Depending on the season, light layers are advisable. A small first-aid kit, insect repellent, and a camera to capture the beautiful scenery are also good additions.
While many trails are natural paths, some sections within the Foresta Umbra, particularly around the visitor center and the Lago d'Umbra - Falascone Loop, are relatively flat and wide, making them more accessible for strollers or very young children. For more rugged paths, a baby carrier is recommended.
Many popular trailheads, especially within the Foresta Umbra and near coastal towns like Vieste and Mattinata, offer designated parking areas. For example, trails starting near the Foresta Umbra visitor center usually have ample parking. It's advisable to check the specific route details on komoot for parking information before you go.
