Few people know that Maria Kownacka lived precisely in Łomianki. She built a summer house here, which she called “Plastusiowo”. The house still stands today at Szpitalna Street (right next to the town hall). It was here that the writer created her characters for children's and youth books, it was here that she eavesdropped on the birds she adored. It was here that “Plastuś” was created – the beloved literary hero of many generations of children. And it was here that an unusual monument was created – a bench with the figure of Maria Kownacka and Plastuś. The “Plastusiowo bench” project was implemented as part of the Łomianki Participatory Mechanism 2023. It was conceived by Aleksandra and Maciej Moraczewscy. They also encouraged residents to vote for the magical – as it turned out – bench.
