An evangelical church that appears simple and unpretentious both inside and out. All the more reason for the organ, with its baroque facade, to be the eye-catcher. The instrument was replaced by a new one in 1896. However, the facade still dates from the Schlottmann organ from 1752. Johannes Schlottmann (1726-1795) temporarily ran his organ-building workshop here in Friedewald. He is a truly tragic figure in music history. Envy from competitors, but certainly also too little business acumen, repeatedly got him into difficulties, including insolvency and imprisonment. His Friedewald workshop was auctioned off, and he worked as a travelling organ builder. The organs that have survived from him are nevertheless of remarkable quality.

When the small observatory was built in 1971 and 1972 on the hill not far from the then-quietly used A4 motorway, the outskirts of the village were considerably farther away than they are today. Hardly any artificial light source obscured the stargazers' view of the night sky here, just outside the village gates. "Back then, this location was ideal," emphasizes Arnulf von der Stein after unlocking the massive outer door. Now 83, he witnessed the development of this rather functional, purpose-built building, whose appearance, thanks to its distinctive dome, nevertheless resembles a miniature cathedral, from its beginnings to its demise.

The exact date of the first church built on this site is unknown, as the records did not survive the Thirty Years' War. In the 17th century, the existing church was evidently destroyed and rebuilt several times. The current chancel tower church was built in 1746 according to plans by the Kassel state architect Giovanni Ghezzi, with the parish and their pastor, Konrad Hermann Meurer, carrying out the majority of the construction work themselves. The life-size bronze figure depicts a Kathus poacher returning from the Seulingswald forest with a roebuck in his backpack and his rifle under his coat, making sure once again that he is not being pursued. He will hide the roebuck in the shaft of his secret well until the danger of discovery has passed. Poachers lived dangerous lives, receiving prison and forced labor. In 1613, the Hessian Landgrave even ordered the death penalty by hanging for "poaching" in the Seulingswald forest. Torture also frequently led to the death of a poacher.
