The first buildings in the fishing village arose along the Alter Strom (Old Stream) in Warnemünde: small, whitewashed captain's and fishermen's houses with thatched roofs, often colorfully decorated doors, and low gables facing the water. Narrow alleys led to the harbor, where fishing boats docked. Alexandrinenstraße, in particular, running parallel to the stream, still displays this historic structure today: narrow lots, densely built rows of small houses, and a maritime flair that preserves the original character of the town.

Beautiful shopping street, leads directly to the Warnemünde Church. A church in the fishing village of Warnemünde is documented as early as the 13th century.[1] During military conflicts fought in Warnemünde between the city of Rostock and Henry II, in cooperation with the Danish King Eric VI, the church in Warnemünde and the tower of St. Peter's Church in Rostock were destroyed in March 1312 to obtain building materials for a bastion with a stone tower. The people of Rostock lost this war in December 1312 and were forced to recognize the sovereignty of the dukes and the Danish king and to commit to building a new wooden church in Warnemünde.[2] It is not documented whether this successor building was destroyed during the renewed conflict between the Rostock Council and the troops of Duchess Catherine of Mecklenburg in 1430, but it seems possible.
