Plesse Castle (also Plesseburg) is a significant medieval castle ruin in southern Lower Saxony, about 7 kilometers north of Göttingen. It sits atop a 350-meter-high mountain spur above the village of Bovenden-Eddigehausen on the edge of the Göttingen Forest.

Normally, the ruins are closed to the public. However, there is a way. At the castle hotel, you can get the key for the gate and visit the ruins. The observation tower was particularly important to me because I visit similar ones by bicycle in the TV series "The Tower Hunt." The tower looks massive. Spiral stone stairs lead up to a small room where you can also reach the viewing platform. First, though, you have to climb the vertical metal ladder. It's worth it because the view is beautiful. You can see the ruins and the surrounding area very well.

The Marienstein monastery estate offers a beautiful photo opportunity. The interior is unfortunately private property, but the church is freely accessible.
