Even from afar, the rock tooth of the Hörndlwand can be recognized between Ruhpolding and Reit im Winkl. Besides the Kampenwand, it is probably one of the most rugged in the Chiemgau Alps. To the north, the summit drops off for around two hundred meters – a paradise for climbers. The plateau of the summit area at 1,684 meters bears three crosses. The ascent requires sure-footedness and a head for heights.

The Wappbachtal is located entirely within the nature reserve Östliche Chiemgauer Alpen, which has existed since 1954 and, with its almost 9,800 hectares, is the fourth largest in Bavaria. The path here follows the Großer Wappbach through a picturesque gorge framed by mighty limestone.
