The Ringerkolonnade (Wrestlers' Colonnade) is one of the most beautiful historical structures around the Old Market Square in Potsdam. With its bright rows of columns and striking sculptures, it almost resembles an ancient temple and lends the square a special elegance to this day. The colonnade was built in the 18th century based on designs by Georg Christian Unger, commissioned by Frederick the Great. Originally, it formed a representative conclusion to the city palace and was intended to harmoniously shape the transition between the palace complex and the city. It owes its name to the two sculptures of wrestling men on the corner pavilions – the famous "Wrestlers". The figures symbolize strength, movement, and competition and are among Potsdam's most famous sculptural works. Together with the classicist columns, they create an impressive architectural ensemble that perfectly matches the historical backdrop of the Old Market Square. During World War II, the Ringerkolonnade was severely damaged. Many parts were lost or removed. The colonnade was only rebuilt in recent years as part of the restoration of Potsdam's city center and once again shapes the historical cityscape. The ensemble looks particularly beautiful in interplay with the reconstructed Potsdam City Palace, the St. Nicholas Church, and the surrounding baroque facades. This allows one to still well imagine how magnificent the residential city of Potsdam once was. Tip for your tour The Ringerkolonnade is perfect for a short break at the Old Market Square. Especially in the morning or in the evening sun, beautiful light moods are created here – ideal for photos and for soaking in the special atmosphere of Potsdam's historic center.

At the entrance to the Sanssouci Park in Potsdam, in quiet seclusion, lies the Church of Peace, modeled after an Italian monastery and grouped around a delicate bell tower. Frederick William IV had it built as a court and parish church between 1845 and 1848, and he and his wife are buried there. An artificial pond was created solely for the church.
