It's good that this memorial to Wehrmacht deserters exists. They betrayed the war machine of the German criminal regime. From a moral standpoint, that was even the right thing to do. But the motto goes further: "What better thing can one do than betray the war?" Should the American soldiers who wanted to stop the German war of conquest have also been called upon to desert? I wouldn't go along with that. I also doubt that the murdered soldiers themselves were total pacifists. Only the current memorial seeks to claim them as such.
