The image title, “Alttrachau Before Demolition in Winter,” testifies to the fact that the demolition of the historic buildings around the village green was planned as recently as the 1970s. The photograph, taken in 1977, shows the narrow street from the southwest, looking towards the tree-lined center of the green and a poster column. The poster column and the houses on the eastern side of the green still stand, but the houses on the western side have been demolished. A lone pedestrian (perhaps the painter himself?) on the left edge of the picture touches the then-car-free street where cars are now parked bumper to bumper. The idyllic village scene has given way to urban bustle. You can see the image here: https://www.hufewiesen.de/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/rosenhauer_wv428_alttrachau-vor-abriss-winter1977_600x500.jpg

Station 1 Teichstrasse 5 In Alttrachau, the heart of the former linear village of Trachau, the painter Theodor Rosenhauer lived for almost a century. Born on May 8, 1901, he moved with his three children to Teichstrasse 5 in 1903, into one of the houses that, since the urban expansion during the Gründerzeit (the period of rapid industrial expansion in Germany in the late 19th century), had reached the Trachau area, transforming villages like Trachau into suburbs of Dresden. The village was incorporated into Dresden in 1903. Rosenhauer grew up here, attended school (the Bürgerschule on Böttgerstrasse), and after studying at the School of Applied Arts and the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts, became an independent painter. He remained in his parents' apartment until 1993. He spent his final years near his son in Berlin-Wannsee. For the artist, Trachau was the starting point and center of his life and work until just a few years before his death.
