Popular around Donau-Oder-Kanal
To commemorate the events of the Pentecost days in 1809 for later generations, memorial stones were erected at the then important points of the French advance in the Lobau - popularly known as "Napoleon Stones". Over the years, overgrown by the floodplain forest, some of the total of 6 small obelisks were hardly to be found anymore. In the course of the realization of the "Donauauen" National Park, they were renovated. So you can now comfortably hike to these memorial sites on newly created paths.

The Freudenau power plant is a modern run-of-river power plant on the Danube and was built in the 1990s to generate environmentally friendly electricity for Vienna. The facility combines technical infrastructure with well-thought-out architecture and offers exciting insights into energy generation from hydropower along the cycling and walking paths. Particularly impressive is the view of the wide Danube and the lock system as cargo ships slowly move upstream or downstream.

The Danube Cycle Path near Orth an der Donau is one of the most scenic sections of the entire route, as it leads right through the heart of the Donau-Auen National Park. Unlike the built-up sections of large cities, here you cycle through one of Central Europe's last great untouched floodplain landscapes. The path often runs along the flood protection dike, from which you have wide views over the reed belts and oxbow lakes of the Danube.

The term "Radlertreff zur Beichtmutter" (Cyclists' Meeting Place at the Confessor) is a charming, almost legendary name for a rest stop on the Austrian Danube Cycle Path, known above all for its friendly, family atmosphere. The name comes from the owner, who is affectionately called "the confessor" by regulars and cyclists – presumably because she not only serves food and drink but also always has a sympathetic ear for the worries and stories of passing cyclists. It's not a classic restaurant, but rather a rustic snack bar or a "snack garden." It's the kind of place where you quickly strike up a conversation with other travelers.
