August 3, 2025, Stille Kern Nature Reserve

What's special about this area is that you don't have to follow the path. You're free to wander around freely. The Stille Kern (Still Core) covers 900 hectares and is the most peaceful spot in the Horsterwold. At most, you'll hear a herd of Konik horses grazing or the rustling of fallow deer hiding in the tall grass. During the walk, you'll encounter a variety of landscapes, from open meadows to secluded woodlands. Stroll past a pond, a willow stand, and through an ash forest. In spring, the hawthorn bushes are in bloom. A beautiful sight. Source: https://www.staatsbosbeheer.nl/uit-in-de-natuur/boswachterspad-horsterwold-stillekern

The Horsterwold is one of the largest contiguous deciduous forests in the Netherlands. Here you can enjoy peace and quiet near the Randstad. You'll share the forest with roe deer, wild horses, fallow deer, foxes, and birds. An extensive network of paths and trails awaits you. But there are also large sections of forest with fewer paths, where it's even more peaceful. The area is full of special spots and sights.

nice not too long walk between the grazing highlanders and horses. So you should not be too afraid of animals!

The super-long promenade in Harderwijk is simply beautiful. There are literally dozens of places to stop for a bite to eat. As you also have a good view of the other bank, there is often something good to see there, for example if you are opposite the outdoor pool.

From the Zeewolde side you have a beautiful view over the vast Wolderwijd, one of the peripheral lakes that surround Flevoland. The wide water surface, bordered by reed beds, attracts countless water birds and offers a peaceful, expansive view. Follow the cycle paths along the banks for a ride with a view of the water, or stop at one of the beaches to enjoy nature for a while.
