Le Cascine Poneira represent a corner of authentic peasant history, located between the municipalities of Sala Biellese and Torrazzo, right along the route of the Serra Morenica 🏡🌾. This cluster of ancient stone and brick farmhouses is a symbol of Biellese rural architecture, where time seems to have stopped to the rhythms of agricultural life of the past 🚜✨. Immersed in a landscape of chestnut and birch woods, the farmhouses offer a picturesque glimpse for those walking the Cammino di Oropa, bestowing that typical atmosphere of peace and isolation that characterizes the high hills 🌿🚶♂️

Language Follow Edit Il Sacro Monte di Graglia is a pre-Alpine locality situated in Graglia, in the province of Biella, in Piedmont, a few kilometers west of the provincial capital. It is located at the foot of the more majestic peak of Mombarone, almost on the border with the Aosta Valley; it mainly hosts the sanctuary of the same name (812 meters above sea level), dedicated to the Black Madonna and linked to the cult of Our Lady of Loreto, in the Marche. It is therefore part of that system of pre-Alpine devotional complexes that characterized a widespread popular Marian and Christian religiosity, which expressed itself between Piedmont and Lombardy starting from around the 16th century, such as, for example, the re-enactment of the Passion of Christ in the nearby town of Sordevolo, or other similar localities such as Sacro Monte di Arona, Sacro Monte di Oropa, Sacro Monte di Varallo, Sacro Monte di Ghiffa.

The statue of this saint is located on the dirt road to the Pianetto refuge. It's easier to see if you're going uphill, but if you're going downhill, you have to look around to see it. Her name is actually Santa Esuberanza, not Esperanza.

This Biella refuge is easily reached in a couple of hours on foot, via a dirt road. There's a nice picnic area nearby, and it's open during the summer and on some weekends during the rest of the year. It's best to call to check if it's open before you set off.
