The tower was built in 1901 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the accession to the throne of Abdülhamid II (r. 1876–1909). The 25 meter high tower, with an iron and lead construction and designed in upscale Ottoman architecture, is circularly surrounded by four fountains designed as Şadirvan. The pillars are inspired by Moorish motifs. The clock itself was a gift from the German Emperor Wilhelm II (r. 1888–1918)

I have to agree with Robert HRO, the restaurants and cafés invite you to linger and you can enjoy the harbor flair. But unfortunately there is little else to be recommended. The cinema is probably still running, but the business is rather bobbing around.

A beautiful and very old mosque. Construction of the Konak Mosque began in 1755 and lasted 19 years; It was opened in 1774. The Konak Mosque is a building of classical Ottoman architecture. It was built in the shape of a hexagon and the windows were surrounded with colored tiles. The mosque has a minaret. Who commissioned the building is controversial. It is said to have been Ayşe Hanım, the wife of Katipzade Mehmet Paşa, who ruled Izmir at the time.
