Drottningskär's Castle was largely built in the last decade of the 17th century and is one of the country's most important defensive fortifications, a complete, well-preserved fortress from the time when Sweden was a great power. The citadel has a large granite keep with a battery deck, powder magazine and quarters. The four bastions are named after the queens Maria, Christina, Hedvig and Ulrica. Since 1895, Drottningskär no longer plays an active role in the Swedish defense system. Drottningskär's castle can be reached daily all year round by car ferry to Aspö. The archipelago boat stops here in summer. Are you interested in a guided tour during the off-season?
