Hjo, the wooden town on Lake Vättern. If you are travelling along the west bank of Lake Vättern on the route from Jönköping to Askersund, you should visit Hjo. Hjo is considered one of the three most beautiful "wooden towns" in Sweden (the others are Nora in the Örebro region and Eksjö in the north of Småland). In the centre of Hjo there are a particularly large number of beautiful wooden villas. Most of them date from the late 19th century. Source: https://schwedentipps.se/vaestergoetland/hjo

The current stone church was built in the late 18th century according to the existing floor plan. The church consists of a rectangular nave with an apse extended to the west and east. The western one houses an organ gallery, the eastern one serves as the chancel. Side tower to the center on the south side of the nave. The old sacristy has a similar location to the north. Although the 18th century wall sections of the church are completely preserved, the exterior is partly characterized by changes made around the turn of the century in 1900, when the towering spire was added. The walls are plastered - albeit with exposed corner chains - and are pierced by round-arched window openings. The interior is covered by a barrel vault, helmet vaults above the apse. The church still retains its late Gustavian character, although changes have taken place. In connection with the turn-of-the-century remodeling, stained glass was inserted into the corabide side.
