The castle was founded between 1260 and 1280 by the Markwartings. This family, from which several Bohemian noble families emerged, rose to prominence during the reign of King Otakar II Přemysl and owned extensive estates in the Jizera region up to the Giant Mountains. The first documented owner was Zdeněk (1280–1304), who named himself after the castle of Waldstein. He was the son of Jaroslav of Turnov (1234–1269). In addition to the castle, the Waldstein domain included several villages on both sides of the Jizera River, around Turnov, up to the Cistercian monastery of Hradiště. Even during Zdeněk's lifetime, disputes over ownership arose, which continued in subsequent generations. From 1318 onward, court proceedings between members of the Waldstein family for robbery in the associated villages are documented.

A special place in the forest, it is said that pregnant women and women who recently gave birth come here to honor the saint by leaving flowers, candles, and teddy bears at the foot of the state. A place that we love very much in our vicinity, there are tables to stop by and sit / picnic nearby.

Valdštejn Castle is located on the western edge of the rock town of Hruba Skála. It was founded in the 13th century by the Markwartinger family, from whom the famous commander from the Thirty Years' War, Generalissimo Albrecht von Wallenstein, descended. In the Baroque period, the castle became a well-known destination for pilgrimages. The area is characterized by the romantic presentation from the 19th century. The stone access bridge with baroque statues and the chapel of St. John of Nepomuk with the portrait of John the Baptist are of exceptional cultural value. Regular cultural events - concerts, fencing performances, church masses, theatrical performances and much more - take place at Valdštejn Castle.
