Below the Mozart Temple in the Baden spa gardens is the Lanner and Strauss monument. On a six-part stone slab stands a pedestal of red stone, on which are the bronze figures of Joseph Lanner and Johann Strauss (father), created in 1912 by the sculptor Hans Mauer. Joseph Lanner and Johann Strauss Sr. often made music in Baden in the 1820s/30s, initially probably together in a chapel, later separately. The venues were the Hauswiese, a pavilion in the spa gardens, the Stadttheater, and also the Redoutensaal. Erato, the Muse of Poetry. Curtain up for one of the most dazzling figures in Baden bei Wien's Theaterplatz! Here, the fountain basin is crowned with the lyre-playing Muse Erato, who not only enchants the gods with her melodies but also touches the hearts of humankind. In 1902, the gifted artist Josef Valentin Kassin created this masterpiece, which stood amidst a profusion of flowers in front of the venerable theater until 1973. But time demanded a transformation, and so the blossoming backdrop became a tender fountain, which unfolds the muse's vivacity even more vividly. Erato, a daughter of the mighty Zeus and the wise Mnemosyne, is the patroness of love poetry, lyricism, song, and dance. Her gentle melodies awaken poets and dreamers and invite viewers to immerse themselves in the world of poetry. When the water bubbles and the lyre sounds, the theater square becomes a stage where Erato's enchanting presence captivates the audience. Here, art and nature unite in a radiant spectacle that makes hearts beat faster.
