St. Nicholas Church was once the church of an early settlement at the foot of the castle and on the shore of the White Lake. It retained its parish rights until 1539, after which it fell almost into oblivion due to misuse. It was rediscovered, so to speak, in the 1920s and restored in 1934. It is surrounded by a spacious churchyard enclosed by a wall with a late Gothic gate. (Source: Thüringen-entdecken.de)
