The Lords of Bothmer originally owned a watermill on the right bank of the Leine. Because it obstructed shipping on the Leine, it was demolished in 1822 on the condition that a Dutch windmill be built on the same site. This mill was intended to have two grinding mills, one for barley and one for oil. The mill burned down in 1930 and was rebuilt in 1932. It was severely damaged during World War II. It was restored in the 1980s and 1990s. Tours are possible on Mill Days and by appointment. https://www.erlebniswelt-lueneburger-heide.de/detail/id=5ff84d7fb4dc7458417f9a9f

The Leine meanders through the country for around 280 kilometers from its source to where it flows into the Aller. The longest part of its course, almost 240 kilometers, is in Lower Saxony. The source of the river is near Leinefelde in Thuringia at an altitude of 400 meters. The confluence with the Aller is near Gilten in Heidekreis. Until then, the water flows down a total of 375 meters from the source. In Lower Saxony, the Leine gives the name to the Aller-Leine-Tal holiday region and the Leinebergland. The Leinebergland community of the same name (Gronau and surrounding towns) also goes back to the name of the body of water. Historically, the name Leinegau is also linked to the river. This area lies east of Eichsfeld. https://www.dein-niedersachsen.de/regionen/leine/

The demolition and reconstruction of the B 214 bridge over the Leine began in 2013 and will probably be completed in the first quarter of 2015.

It is a very important place because the first blueberries were cultivated in this farm in 1934, which are still commercially available today (and are different from the small, wild blueberries that you "had to" collect in the forest in the past).
