The approximately two-hectare city moat is located in the heart of Wolfenbüttel. The body of water, which is the size of two large football stadiums, is used for a variety of purposes, which, however, also results in a lack of suitable refuges for rare (aquatic) animals and plants. And: Feeding waterfowl, as well as branches falling into the city moat, results in too many nutrients in the water. This has a negative impact on water quality and aquatic organisms, says Udo Berger, chairman of the angling club. The club has now implemented a joint project with the city of Wolfenbüttel to counteract these disadvantages for the local flora and fauna. For years, the angling club has been working to maintain and preserve native fish stocks in Wolfenbüttel's city moat. A few days ago, the club created two more floating islands in the city moat. One island was already installed last year. The historic building on the edge of Wolfenbüttel's city moat has been up for sale since the end of 2023. But finding a new owner doesn't seem to be quite so easy—the price has even been reduced.

The approximately two-hectare city moat is located in the heart of the city of Wolfenbüttel. As a central park body of water, the pond provides a valuable recreational space for various user groups. However, the diverse use of the water body also results in a lack of suitable refuges for rarer (aquatic) animals and plants, and the nutrient load in the water body is constantly increasing due to uncontrolled feeding of waterfowl, which has a negative impact on water quality and aquatic organisms (such as fish and aquatic insects). The installation of the floating islands is intended to promote biodiversity – across all species groups – in this heavily used park body of water by providing suitable habitats and refuges. For 135 years, the water tower has been part of the Lessingstadt's cityscape, particularly shaping the landscape around the city moat. The tower has long since ceased to serve as a water reservoir. Rather, it offers great potential as a residential or commercial building. The tall tower includes the so-called pump house, which was built next to the imposing water tower in the 1930s and has already been converted into a residential property. The tower itself, however, has not been converted. Not yet. https://regionalheute.de/wolfenbuettel/wolfenbuetteler-wasserturm-wartet-noch-immer-auf-neuen-besitzer-wolfenbuettel-1715080583-XJ8/

The Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Stephanus is located in Kissenbrück, a municipality in the district of Wolfenbüttel in Lower Saxony. The church belongs to the Trinity parish in the Wolfenbüttel provostship of the Evangelical Lutheran State Church in Braunschweig. The first church was built around 780. The second building was erected in 1058 and destroyed in the Thirty Years' War. The third baroque central building, the first in the Principality of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel, was built between 1662 and 1664 on behalf of Duke Rudolf August as a church for Hedwigsburg Castle. On January 14, 1944, the church burned down, only the outer walls remained standing. When it was rebuilt in 1956-1959 by Friedrich Berndt, the basic shape of the Greek cross was retained. The fourth church was consecrated on June 7, 1959. (Source: Wikipedia)
