The first German Chancellor, Otto von Bismarck, was born on April 1, 1815 in Schönhausen. The first museum in honor of Otto von Bismarck was set up in 1891 in Schönhauser Schloss II, today's community center, while he was still alive and could be visited there until 1948. Its main stock consisted of the numerous gifts that Bismarck received in the last years of his life. With the help of subsidies from the state of Saxony-Anhalt, a new museum was set up in Schönhausen in 1998 and part of the inventory was returned to its place of origin. It is located in the remaining side wing of Schönhauser Schloss I, the birthplace of Otto von Bismarck, which was built between 1695 and 1700 and demolished in 1958. The exhibition was expanded in 2000 to include the largest publicly owned collection of medals embossed on the first German Chancellor. Both collections convey an impression of the contemporary cult surrounding the statesman revered as the “founder of the Reich” and are suitable starting points for asking questions about German and European history. https://elbhavelwinkel.com/sehensw%C3%BCrdigkeit/bismarck-museum-schoenhausen-elbe/

Village Church of St. Marien and Willebrord In the 12th century, Dutch settlers settled on the Elbe and began diking the Elbe. They founded the village of Schönhausen at its current location. The village church of St. Marien and Willebrord also dates from this period. In 1212, Bishop Segebodo von Havelberg consecrated the Romanesque brick church to St. Willebrord. The building, which has retained its late Gothic character, shows a three-aisled basilica with a broad west transept tower and a square chancel with apse. In 1562 the place became property of the Bismarcks, who also received patronage over the church. In April 1815, the future Chancellor, Prince Otto von Bismarck, was born here and was baptized in this church. In addition, numerous epitaphs of the Bismarck family have been preserved in the church. The church was damaged during the Thirty Years' War. The damage was repaired between 1665 and 1712. As a result, the interior received baroque furnishings, the pulpit, the altar and the state gallery. The wooden crucifix and the sandstone baptismal font date from the early 13th century. https://www.strassederromanik.de/de/detail/dorfkirche-st-marien-und-willebrord.html
