The milk ram served to make work easier for the carters who were supposed to bring the milk to the dairy. They drove up to the milk stand and then used a hook to pull the milk cans up by their handles. The milk cans were numbered so that the milk in the dairy could be clearly weighed and allocated. On the way back, the carters transported the skimmed milk for the animals in the cans and also butter once a week. I still remember that my parents had the pot number 268. This number was stamped on the milk cans.
