From 1906, Carl Thon created the Sonnengarten (Sun Garden) southwest of the Esplanade on the site of the former nursery. Initially landscaped, a temple was erected in the 1920s as a weather shelter and a formal bed structure was integrated, showing similarities to Italian gardens. The stone vases were made by Nenndorf stonemasons according to Thon's designs. The sundial originally stood on the Esplanade. Carl Thon had designed the garden of the Villa Cortine in Sirmione on Lake Garda from 1900 to 1913 and, as a reminder, brought Mediterranean accents to Bad Nenndorf. The planting of the Rodenberger Allee with plane trees (Platanus x acerifolia) also probably goes back to him, guiding guests into the center of Bad Nenndorf with a touch of the south.
