A fast descent through the town, where you had to hold the handlebars tightly. In many places the road surface was a single tarred patchwork.

Bird Tower / Tower Museum The bird tower was built in 1466, it is a multi-storey gate tower, built of plastered quarry stone masonry and corner blocks. It is covered with a half-hipped roof and has an onion turret. The gate coat of arms shows the year "1727". The year “1568” is on the south-west attached two-storey porch with saddle roof. The road from Auerbach ran through it to the former Obertor, later also known as the "Black Gate", and on to the Schnappauf Bridge. Previously, this road led through the Vilstor into the city. The tower was named after Bartholomäus Vogel (night watchman from 1843 to around 1885) in Vilseck in the 19th century. The bird tower was renovated in 1995 and opened as a tower museum in June 2000. The function and everyday life of the Upper Palatinate tower watchmen are shown on three floors. These played an important role as watchmen and musicians from the 15th to the early 20th century. In addition to contemporary documents, pieces of music by the watchmen can also be experienced. You can also see two Rauchkuchln, the intact clockwork for the tower clock and in the so-called Peißnerstube a dress from 1848 that Lola Montez presumably left behind when she fled with the Vilseck watchman's son Elias Peißner. The bird tower, the symbol of the city of Vilseck, was built into the city wall as a gate tower in 1466 and a porch was added in 1568. The southwest side is adorned with a stone coat of arms of the bishopric of Bamberg. In 1905, the coat of arms of the Prince-Bishop of Bamberg and Elector of Mainz Franz Lothar, Count of Schönborn, was walled in on the northeast side. In 2000 the "First German Tower Museum" was opened here. Everyday life and culture, especially those of the Upper Palatinate towers, are presented on three floors. In their dual function as guardians and musicians, they played an important role in their respective communities from the 15th to the 20th century. In addition to contemporary documents, the music of the tower keepers can also be experienced in the museum. You can also see two smoking rooms, the intact clockwork and a dress from 1848, which Lola Montez presumably left behind on the run with Elias Peißner, the Vilseck turret son.

The two-story gate tower was built in the 16th century from limestone with a gable roof. There is still a key and mouth slit on the east side. The west side is decorated with a coat of arms of the bishopric of Bamberg and the Electoral Palatinate. It got its name from the Hafnerei (pottery).
