July 15, 2026, Altötting Train Station

On May 1, 1897, Altötting was connected to the Bavarian railway network and opened. At 9:40 a.m., the train from Mühldorf, festively decorated with flags and garlands, arrived, euphorically welcomed by a crowd of a hundred people, under cannon fire and with lively march music from the Esterer factory band. The Altötting station, initially only titled a "halt", was initially unstaffed. After the station opened, Altötting was staffed with a "local railway attendant", who received assistance from his wife for further support. In 1898, the "halt" became a "railway station" due to the high number of passengers, accompanied by the expansion of the station and the track system. As early as 1906/07, due to the very high number of passengers, the complex was expanded by mirroring the existing facility. Architectural features that distinguish the Altötting station from others of that time are, on the one hand, the "Pilgrim Hall"/"Prayer Hall", to offer arriving pilgrims a covered space. On the other hand, a "Cabinet for His Royal Highnesses". Due to Altötting's close connection with the House of Wittelsbach, this room was likely used when they arrived or departed. The entire area around the station building was significantly upgraded in terms of urban development between the years 2000 and 2007, and in several construction phases, a Park & Ride facility, a Bike & Ride facility, and the central bus station were built. In addition, the forecourt was redesigned. https://www.altoetting.de/rathaus/staedtische-liegenschaften/bahnhof/
