Zwäntzer „Lieblingsplatzl“ in new attire since November 2024. "It's a magnificent view over our hometown from the old railway track across the valley towards the tower of the Holy Trinity Church and on to Ziegenberg, when it's not raining. A place to pause and be grateful that we can live so idyllically. Here you can enjoy the vastness and feel a sense of belonging." In May 2024, two wave benches were purchased for this beautiful "Platzl" and a photo frame was added later. https://zwoenitzer-anzeiger.de/2024/11/12/zwaentzer-lieblingsplatzl-in-neuem-gewand/

In the spring of 1783, work began on the tunnel. It served primarily for the investigation of the existing mountain range. For many years, the only miner working there, foreman Christian Gotthilf Martin, was occupied with this. Until operations ceased in 1805, the tunnel reached a length of 90 m. Only at a length of 14.8 m was a vein about 2 inches thick found, consisting of quartz, slate, calcite, and black blende, which, however, did not appear to be worth mining. https://zwoenitzer-anzeiger.de/2020/09/24/der-felsenbauend-glueck-stolln/

In 2025, the wooden sculpture was replaced. The Zwönitz wood sculptor Frank Salzer has created a much more realistic figure with great skill, which is definitely worth a visit! As of January 2026

"A Saxon post mile post, colloquially also called a Saxon post mile post or simply a post mile post, is a milestone that indicates distances and walking times to within one-eighth of an hour. The design of the stones varies depending on the distance." - https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurs%C3%A4chsische_Postmeilens%C3%A4ule#Distanzs%C3%A4ule In this case, it is a distance post. The plan was for each town to erect a post in front of each town gate, indicating the postal routes in the corresponding direction. For cost reasons, smaller communities could erect a post in the market square – a so-called market post – which then indicated all postal routes in those directions.
