https://youtu.be/cFhWvbHr7fE On our drive to Jonsdorf, we visit the King Frederick Augustus Tower. From the hiking parking lot, we walk a few hundred meters up the steep path. The trees have already shed most of their leaves. We reach the tower, which sits atop Löbau Mountain. Erected in 1854 in just 2.5 months, commissioned by master baker Friedrich August Brettschneider, the cast-iron tower consists of approximately 6,000 individual parts. It has three viewing platforms. We climb up; the ironwork appears incredibly delicate, accompanied by a fantastic golden sunset. We pause at each platform, taking in the atmosphere. The top platform is at a height of 24 meters. We are rewarded with a magnificent panoramic view of the mountains and the surrounding villages. This is a priceless moment. We descend again; those who wish can linger at the inn before continuing our journey. A lovely excursion. The view over the mountains and valley at sunset is magnificent. It's hard to imagine today that the tower was once built in just 2.5 months in the mid-19th century. Nowadays, it would probably be a project lasting several years.
