From 1485 to 1930, the mines of the Schneeberg mining district were supplied with impulse water (process water) for their machines via a water distribution system many kilometers long. This main artificial ditch, which originally ended at the Peter & Paul mine, marked the beginning. The path along the ditch was used for inspection. The water discharge from the Filz pond was regulated by slide gates.
