The name "Holstein Switzerland" dates back to the 19th century, when travel to Switzerland was popular (among the wealthy). On May 20, 1885, Johannes Janus, a merchant from Eutin, opened the "Holstein Switzerland" hotel on Kellersee in Krummsee (Malente), which enjoyed great popularity.
