The Völser Au was declared a protected part of the landscape because of its importance for the natural balance, in particular for the preservation of the native bird world, and a dynamically developing floodplain as well as for the revitalization of the landscape. Position: The protected area extends over an area of approx. 12 hectares along the southern bank of the Inn, upstream of the Kranebitter Inn Bridge, between the motorway, agricultural areas and the Inn. On the other side of the Inn is the special protection area "Kranebitter Innau", which is why natural areas on both sides of the river have been preserved. Landscaping: The protected part of the landscape "Völser Au" includes both water surface, transition area to the land, as well as alluvial forest area of different succession stages in order to maintain a natural balance that is as ecologically unpolluted as possible. The importance of the floodplains lies particularly in the structural diversity of changing habitats and in the pronounced vertical structure of the alluvial forests; The diversity of species in the trees, bushes and herbs means that there is a high supply of food. In terms of ornithology, the remnants of the formerly widespread floodplain forests are to be assessed as particularly valuable because of the close interlinking of waters, reed beds and species-rich forest communities. With stocks of gray alder, ripe willow and purple willow, the typical vegetation form of a soft meadow can still be found in the Völser Innau.
