My local mountain. The birthplace of my great love for nature, mountains, and horizons. Under optimal conditions, the Velka Javorina, 156km away; 970m high on the Czech-Slovak border, can (theoretically) be seen as the furthest point. Exactly to the south is the Wechsel, further west the Schneeberg, Rax, Schneealpe, Obersberg, Gippl, Unterberg, Großer Zellerhut, Ötscher and then Reisalpe, Hochstaff and the Danube valley to the north.

The northeasternmost peak in the Alps, reaching over 1,000 meters. Here, the foresters leave nothing standing! Decades ago, the forest floor was still full of snowdrops, which fell victim to the harvester. Only on the Kienberg can one still find an exceptionally dense density of snowdrops. The Altenmarkt side is largely beech forest. On the far side, there is more pine forest with heather and serviceberry as undergrowth. Small purple gentians can be found on the summit meadow.

Hiking through deer grass and letting your gaze wander over the mountains is a pleasure at any time of year. The Schneeberg, in particular, is clearly visible from here—assuming it's not hidden by clouds.

Pavilion as a covered rest area for hikers and pilgrims to Mariazell, but also for families (adjacent to a playground for little adventurers). Drinking water and toilets available in the immediate vicinity.

Very nice view. It's worth the climb. Next to the lookout there is a sun terrace that invites you to take a break.

In addition to Himmelsreith, the second silent witness to former settlement in this area in the middle of the forest. Apparently the house was still inhabited around 7 decades ago, and the roof structure was still standing around 10 years ago.
